Cala 1600 began with sauna in its purest and most recognisable form.

At its heart are natural timber, heated stones, high temperatures and löyly—the elements that have defined sauna bathing for generations. We did not want the additional space to mean unnecessary technology, decoration or complexity.

Instead, we considered how a traditional sauna could support more of the ways people live at home: shared with a partner, family or friends, or enjoyed alone with more room to settle in and unwind.

From its width and seating layout to its glazing, materials, heating and assembly systems, every part of Cala 1600 was developed around this flexibility.

02 · Broad Front Glazing That Opens the Wider Interior

As a sauna becomes wider, an all-timber frontage can make the cabin feel visually heavy and enclosed within a residential interior.

Cala 1600 combines a glass door with a fixed glass side panel, allowing natural light and sightlines to pass through the broad frontage.

The fully floating benches continue this visual openness by reducing visible structure beneath the seating and revealing the space below.

From inside, the glazing softens the feeling of enclosure and helps the wider cabin feel light and spacious. From outside, it reveals the natural colour of the Canadian hemlock, the traditional two-tier bench layout and the craftsmanship within.

Even when Cala 1600 is not in use, its materials and interior detailing remain visible as a considered part of the surrounding space.

03 · Three-Person Proportions with Space to Stretch Out

Cala 1600 was designed to accommodate up to three people comfortably without asking the home to make room for an unnecessarily large sauna.

Its 1600 mm width creates space for shared sessions with a partner, family or friends. When used alone, the generous bench space gives one person greater freedom to stretch out, extend their legs and settle into a more relaxed position.

The 1250 mm depth provides comfortable movement within the cabin while keeping its overall footprint considered for residential interiors.

A 1900 mm internal clear height provides comfortable headroom while maintaining an overall cabin height of 2000 mm.

Within these dimensions, the traditional Finnish two-tier bench layout preserves the natural heat variation between different seating heights, allowing users to choose the position that best suits their comfort and preference.

Every dimension has a purpose: enough room to share the experience naturally, with greater freedom to stretch out when the sauna is enjoyed alone.

04 · Canadian Hemlock, Chosen to Feel More Like Furniture Than Equipment

A wider sauna has a noticeable presence within a room, so its material character matters as much as its internal space.

We selected clear-grade, knot-free Canadian hemlock for its suitability in a sauna environment, warm natural tone and quiet grain.

Its soft colour sits comfortably alongside the timber, stone and neutral finishes commonly found in Australian interiors, helping Cala 1600 feel integrated rather than visually intrusive.

Wider timber boards and precise panel alignment reduce unnecessary joins and visual fragmentation, creating calmer, more continuous surfaces.

Because the interior remains visible through the broad glazed frontage, every element—from the timber and joinery to the seating and craftsmanship—needs to be worth seeing.

Together, these details give Cala 1600 a furniture-like presence, allowing it to sit naturally within a room and remain visually considered even when it is not in use.

05 · Designed for Simpler Home Sauna Installation

A more generous interior should not require an unnecessarily complicated installation process.

Cala’s precision-engineered Snap-Lock assembly system helps the main wall panels align and secure into position with less reliance on screws, repeated drilling and extensive on-site fixing.

This panel-based construction supports a simpler, cleaner assembly process while maintaining precise alignment and secure connections throughout the cabin.

Once assembled, the Snap-Lock system sits discreetly within the structure, preserving Cala 1600’s restrained appearance and clean exterior lines.

The hardwired electrical connection must be completed by a licensed electrician.

06 · Designed for Shared Time and More Space Alone

Cala 1600 was designed around flexibility rather than capacity alone.

Its three-person format creates a place to reconnect with a partner, spend uninterrupted time with family or friends, or share a quiet ritual without the distractions of everyday life.

There is room for conversation, but no need to fill the silence.

When used alone, the generous seating space creates a different kind of experience—more freedom to stretch out, extend the legs, settle back and allow the heat to become an unhurried part of personal recovery or rest.

When in use, Cala 1600 provides a setting for heat, steam and time that can be either shared or entirely personal. When not in use, its restrained form and material quality allow it to remain naturally within the room rather than becoming something that needs to be hidden.
