Honka 1350 – 2 Person Full Spectrum & Far Infrared Sauna

Honka combines the more immediate sensation of full spectrum infrared with the steady, sustained warmth of far infrared.

Together, the two forms of infrared allow heat to be felt earlier in the session and develop into comfortable whole-body warmth—supporting recovery, relaxation and everyday wellbeing.

03 · Deep Warming & Natural Circulatory Response

Unlike a traditional high-temperature sauna, which relies primarily on very hot surrounding air, infrared allows warmth to build progressively at a more moderate cabin temperature.

As body temperature rises, circulation adjusts naturally to help distribute and release heat.

The result is a gradual and comfortable warming experience that feels measured rather than abrupt.

04 · Post-Workout Recovery, Muscle Comfort & Mobility

Following training, infrared warmth creates a dedicated period in which tired muscles can relax and the body can shift away from physical effort.

One study into post-exercise infrared sauna use observed lower perceived muscle soreness, an improved sense of recovery and a smaller decline in explosive performance when compared with passive rest.

Beyond training, the warming experience can also feel welcome after physical work, prolonged sitting or standing, or during colder weather when muscles and areas surrounding the joints may feel tense or less mobile.

After each session, the body may feel more relaxed and movement more comfortable.

Together with hydration, nutrition, mobility work and adequate sleep, infrared sauna can form a considered part of a well-rounded recovery routine.

05 · Deep Sweating & Natural Detoxification

Sustained perspiration develops naturally as the session continues and the body becomes warmer.

Sweat consists primarily of water and electrolytes. Related studies have also detected small amounts of certain metals and environmental compounds in perspiration, indicating that sweating provides an additional natural pathway through which some substances can leave the body.

Alongside the primary metabolic work of the liver and kidneys, perspiration forms part of the body’s natural processes for maintaining balance.

Beyond the physiology, deep sweating contributes to the clean, light and refreshed feeling many people associate with an infrared sauna session. Replacing water and electrolytes afterwards helps restore the body’s natural balance.

06 · Long-Term Wellbeing

The value of Honka extends beyond how the body feels immediately after a single session.

Having an infrared sauna at home allows relaxation, recovery and quiet time to fit more naturally into everyday life rather than remain an occasional experience.

A session may begin with physical recovery or simply a need to slow down. With regular use, it can become part of a considered and enduring approach to long-term wellbeing.

Honka was developed around two equally important considerations: how the cabin performs during each session and how it belongs within the room when not in use.

Heating, proportion, comfort, materials and technology were considered together from the beginning, creating one complete design rather than separate functional and decorative layers.

01 · Why We Layered the Heating System

We designed the heating system around two seated users and how heat reaches each person across the cabin.

Two 300 W full spectrum heating tubes are positioned around the primary seating areas, supported by 15 Nano-Carbon far infrared panels across the back, sides, legs and floor. Together, they bring heat towards both seating positions from multiple directions.

The lower body received particular attention. Five concealed floor panels extend warmth towards the feet and lower legs while preserving the clean interior.

This layered arrangement is designed to reduce noticeable cool zones, moderate differences between the two seating positions and create more consistent warmth throughout the cabin.

02 · Why We Established a 2000 mm Internal Clear Height

The 1350 × 1050 mm footprint keeps Honka practical for a residential wellness area, while the 2000 mm internal clear height provides comfortable space for entering, standing, turning and sitting down.

It also leaves room for both users to adjust their posture and reposition the movable backrests during the session.

Together with the expansive front glazing, the taller internal proportion draws the eye upwards and helps the cabin feel more open from within.

The result is a considered balance of usable headroom, compact scale and residential practicality.

03 · Why We Made the Backrests Movable

Everyone sits differently, and posture naturally changes throughout a sauna session.

Honka’s two individual backrests can be moved independently, allowing each person to position the support where it feels most comfortable and adjust it whenever needed.

Their shaped profiles offer support without adding permanent frames that would interrupt the clean line of the fully floating bench.

Leather introduces a softer, more tactile contact surface than an entirely timber backrest. Its subtle connection to residential upholstery also helps Honka sit naturally alongside the furniture around it.

04 · Why We Paired Canadian Hemlock with Dyed Maple

The interior and exterior of Honka each have a distinct visual role.

Inside, clear-grade, knot-free Canadian hemlock creates a pale, naturally warm environment. Its quiet, uninterrupted grain reduces visual noise and helps the cabin feel calm and open.

Outside, the hand-wrapped dyed maple veneer gives Honka greater tonal depth and a more grounded, furniture-like presence. The natural grain remains visible and follows the rounded corners without breaking abruptly between surfaces.

Its brown, taupe and warm grey undertones work comfortably with oak, walnut, warm cabinetry, stone, linen and leather. Instead of matching one particular finish, the mid-tone provides a natural bridge between lighter and darker interiors.

Together, the two timbers create a deliberate transition: lighter and quieter within, richer and more settled within the room.

05 · Why the Timber and Glass Follow One Continuous Curve

Honka is designed to be appreciated from the front, side and every angle in between, much like a freestanding piece of furniture.

Rounded timber corners soften the cabin’s visual mass, while the two curved glass doors continue the same line across the front. Timber and glass come together as one continuous exterior form.

The ultra-clear glass is especially important on a curved surface, which is often viewed from an angle. By reducing the green cast commonly seen in standard glass, it keeps the surrounding timber, leather and warm lighting closer to their intended tones.

The 8 mm tempered glass feels substantial and reassuring. A transparent safety film provides additional protection by helping to hold fragments together and reduce scattering in the unlikely event of damage, without affecting everyday clarity.

The result is a cabin that feels like a complete piece of wellness furniture, not a timber enclosure with glass added to the front.

06 · Why We Concealed the Technology

Honka’s technology is designed to support the experience without taking attention away from the space itself.

The controls, audio system, PureAir ioniser and other functional components are recessed, integrated or concealed wherever possible. This keeps the main surfaces and sightlines calm and uninterrupted.

A concealed 12-colour LED system allows the atmosphere to shift with the moment, from soft and restful to clear and focused. It provides meaningful choice without making the controls unnecessarily complicated.

The concealed lighting creates a gentle ambient glow, while the integrated reading lights offer focused illumination when needed.

The technology is felt through what it does, leaving the materials, lighting and proportions to define the cabin.
