Vapour 1800 – Australia’s First Plug-and-Play Steam Room

For centuries, the Turkish hammam has treated steam as more than a source of heat. It is a ritual shaped by warmth, moisture and stillness, giving the body time to soften and the mind space to slow down.

Vapour draws on this enduring understanding of steam, translating its enveloping warmth into a more spacious ritual for contemporary life at home—one that can be comfortably shared without losing its sense of calm.

For those who find traditional dry heat too intense, Vapour creates a gentler, moisture-rich atmosphere.

Warm humidity helps soothe dryness around the nose and throat, making each breath feel clearer, softer and more comfortable as steam gradually fills the cabin.

Steam carries warmth throughout the cabin, settling gently across the skin rather than feeling sharp or concentrated.

As the body warms, circulation adjusts naturally and muscles can begin to feel looser, allowing everyday stiffness and physical tension to give way to a deeper sense of comfort.

Used in the morning, it can create a calm and considered beginning. After work or before rest, it offers time to release accumulated tension, clear mental noise and reconnect with how the body feels.

With face-to-face seating for up to four people, the experience can be shared with a partner, family or close friends while still retaining the stillness that makes steam feel restorative. It creates something increasingly difficult to find in everyday life: uninterrupted time to slow down, reconnect and simply be present together.

Vapour 1800 was conceived as a complete four-person steam room, with every system designed around the needs of a wider, shared space. Its dual steam system, face-to-face seating, integrated water and drainage, layered materials and sensory elements were developed together so that greater capacity would not come at the expense of simplicity.

01. Why We Made Shared Steam Simpler

Customers told us they valued the ritual of sauna, but many preferred the softer, moisture-rich atmosphere of steam. What held them back was the time, cost and disruption of creating a conventional steam room, often involving waterproofing, plumbing, drainage and multiple trades.

Many also wanted enough space to enjoy the experience with a partner, family or close friends. Vapour 1800 was our answer: a generous, self-contained steam room for up to four people, designed to make shared steam easier to bring into everyday life at home.

02. Why We Developed a Dual Self-Contained Steam System

A wider cabin requires a steam system capable of building and distributing moisture-rich warmth consistently throughout the space.

We therefore integrated two 2.0 kW steam generators, two 5.5 L water reservoirs and dual steam outlets into Vapour 1800. Together, they provide up to 60 minutes of continuous steam per fill while helping distribute steam more consistently across the cabin.

A removable self-contained drainage system eliminates the need for an external plumbing or drainage connection. Each steam generator operates through its own standard 10 A plug, providing 4.0 kW of total power without requiring a hardwired electrical installation.

Timer shut-off and overheat protection are built into the system. If the water level in either reservoir becomes insufficient, low-water protection automatically switches off the corresponding steam generator.

03. Why We Chose Face-to-Face Seating

Simply extending a single bench would have increased capacity, but it would not have created the experience we wanted Vapour 1800 to offer.

Instead, two opposing benches allow up to four people to sit face to face, supporting more natural conversation while preserving a clear central space. The arrangement gives the wider cabin a sense of balance and makes it equally comfortable for two people when the full capacity is not required.

The steam equipment is concealed beneath the seating, allowing the interior to remain visually calm and focused on the people using it.

04. Why We Built Vapour in Layers

A steam room must manage structure, warmth and moisture at the same time. We therefore selected each material according to the role it needed to perform rather than treating the cabin as a single decorative enclosure.

Clear-grade, heat-treated, knot-free pine forms the interior walls and 50 mm structural frame. Integrated insulation helps retain warmth, while engineered marble creates a durable, moisture-resistant and easy-to-maintain interior surface.

The Finnish-sourced matte-black weather-resistant coating visually unifies the exterior, gives the larger form a restrained architectural presence and helps Vapour 1800 sit naturally within a contemporary home.

05. Why the Front Glazing Balances Privacy and Openness

The front glazing needed to provide privacy without making the interior feel disconnected or enclosed.

We selected an 8 mm grey-tinted tempered glass door to soften views into and out of the cabin while still allowing light to enter. The restrained tint provides a greater sense of privacy without compromising the feeling of space.

Magnetic steam-sealing strips create a close-fitting seal around the door, helping retain steam and maintain a more consistent internal environment. The glazing therefore balances privacy, visual openness and steam performance rather than appearance alone.

06. Why We Designed More Than Heat

We never saw steam as an experience defined by temperature alone. We wanted Vapour 1800 to create an immersive atmosphere without filling the interior with additional visible equipment.

Aromatherapy allows fragrance to travel naturally through the steam, while ambient lighting diffuses softly through the moisture-rich air. Fully concealed Bluetooth audio brings music, podcasts or guided sessions into the cabin without visible speakers interrupting the interior.

Time, temperature and audio are brought together through the integrated touchscreen, allowing each session to be shaped without unnecessary complexity. Together, these elements allow the cabin to move easily between quiet individual recovery and meaningful time shared with others.

07. Why Vapour 1800 Could Only Come from Orans

Bringing Vapour 1800 together required product design, factory development, installation experience and aftercare to work as one connected process.

Orans works directly across each of these areas, allowing us to resolve how the wider cabin generates steam, manages water, uses space and operates in the home before the product reaches the customer.

This complete design process allowed Australia’s first plug-and-play home steam room concept to become a generous four-person experience without sacrificing the simplicity that defined the original idea.
